Clinical background
Tim is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine working in NHS Wales. His clinical practice is in palliative and end-of-life care — a specialty that turns on communication, symptom control and holding uncertainty well, often across the whole range of medical and surgical conditions.
He built The Monday Clinical Brief to solve a problem he and his colleagues shared: keeping up with the literature alongside a full clinical workload. It is built by someone who reads these journals for their own practice, not by a publisher looking for a product.
Editorial policy
Two distinct things are published under this name, and they are produced differently.
The weekly digests are generated by an automated pipeline: PubMed is queried for new articles in each specialty's five-journal panel, and each abstract is summarised by a large language model into a fixed structure. They are not individually written or reviewed before sending. We set out exactly how this works, including its limits, on our methodology page.
The articles on this blog are different. They are researched and written for publication, checked against the primary source — the NICE guideline, the BNF entry, the GMC or college requirement — and edited by Tim before they go up. Where we describe what a regulator or college requires, we link to the body that says it, so you can check us.
We correct rather than quietly amend. If an article is wrong on a point of substance, we fix it and say what changed.
How blog articles are reviewed
- Every clinical or regulatory claim is checked against the primary source, not against a secondary summary of it
- Guideline references name the specific guideline and its current version
- Claims about appraisal, revalidation or CPD requirements are framed as what a college or regulator states, and point to it
- Comparisons with other products are checked against that product's own live pages before publication, and re-checked when we update the piece
- Tim reads and approves every article before it is published
Conflicts of interest
Tim is the founder and owner of The Monday Clinical Brief, which is a paid subscription service. Articles on this site are marketing as well as education, and several of them compare our product with alternatives. Read them with that in mind.
We state our commercial interest rather than dressing it up: where an article recommends The Monday Clinical Brief, that is us recommending our own product. Where we describe a competitor, we check the claim against their own published information and link to it so you can verify it yourself.
We take no payment from journal publishers, pharmaceutical companies, device manufacturers or medical education providers. We carry no advertising and no sponsored content. We are not paid to mention any product, and nothing in a digest is chosen or ordered on a commercial basis — the selection is automated from the journal panel.
Where we have a partnership with a professional body or membership organisation, it is a member discount arrangement: their members get a reduced subscription rate. These are disclosed on the page where the offer appears.
